Các bài kiểm tra về trọng âm và ngữ âm là phần kiến thức học sinh dễ mất điểm nhất. Do kỹ năng phát âm của học sinh chưa chuẩn. Do đó, để đạt điểm tuyệt đối ở phần này:
a. mẹo phát âm ed
Dưới đây là một số mẹo phát âm -ed để bạn tham khảo: + Đối với động từ tận cùng bằng /t/, /d/ khi thêm -ed sẽ được phát âm là /id/.
+ Đối với động từ kết thúc bằng /ch/, /p/, /f/, /s/, /k/, /th/, /ʃ/, /tʃ/ khi thêm -ed sẽ được phát âm là /t/.
+ Các trường hợp còn lại khi thêm -ed sẽ được phát âm là /d/.
Ví dụ:
Bị truy nã /ˈwɒntɪd/
Được thăng chức /prəˈməʊtɪd/
Duy trì /meɪnˈteɪnd/
b. Mẹo nhớ cách phát âm s/es
Đối với những động từ kết thúc bằng s/es sẽ được phát âm theo 3 dạng sau:
+ Với các từ kết thúc bằng: -f, -k, -p, -t khi thêm s/es sẽ được phát âm là /s/.
+ Với các từ kết thúc bằng: -s,-ss,-ch,-sh,-x,-z,-o,-ge,-ce khi thêm s/es sẽ được phát âm là /iz/.
+ Các từ còn lại khi thêm đuôi s/es sẽ được phát âm là /z/.
+ Đối với những từ kết thúc bằng – ic, – ish, – ience, – id, – ous, – ian, – ical, – sion, – tion, – ance, – idle, – ence, – iar, – ity thì trọng âm sẽ rơi vào âm tiết ngay trước nó.
+ Những từ kết thúc bằng – ee, – eer, – ese, – ique, – ain, – esque thì trọng âm sẽ rơi vào âm tiết đó.
+ Những từ kết thúc bằng – cy, – ity, – al, – gy, – graphy, – ate, – phy thì trọng âm sẽ rơi vào âm tiết thứ 3 từ phải sang.
