About George Kambosos Jr

George Kambosos Jr. was born in Sydney. He started playing junior rugby league with the Gymea Gorillas. Because he was overweight and frequently teased as a child, his father started his boxing lessons at age 11 to help him get in better shape.

Kambosos rapidly lost the extra weight and was added to the Cronulla Sharks development team, where he was coached by Ricky Stuart. However, when he was a teenager, he had to decide between boxing and rugby league, which put him in a difficult situation. He made the decision to follow the boxing route, and before going professional, he won 85 of his 100 amateur bouts.

At the age of 19, Kambosos won his first professional boxing match in May 2013 via technical knockout in the second round against Filipino opponent Jayson Mac Gura. He defeated Brandon Ogilvie, the ninth-ranked fighter in the world, to win the WBA Oceania title in December 2016.

In May 2017, he next faced Qamil Balla, whom he eventually stopped via unanimous decision after a ten-round battle.
